Introduction To Wrinkle Relaxers
Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Ageing is a natural process that happens to everyone and in every part of our bodies. As part of the ageing process, the texture and condition of our skin will change, with one of the noticeable changes being the formation of wrinkles on our face. This is where anti-wrinkle injections, also referred to as wrinkle relaxers, can help.
The wrinkles on our face can be either dynamic or static. Dynamic lines are those wrinkles caused by muscle contractions from facial expressions such as squinting and frowning. These lines are not permanent when we are younger as our skin produces sufficient collagen for the skin to bounce back after each expression. As we get older, it is harder for the skin to bounce back and the dynamic wrinkles will slowly become more permanent, eventually transforming into static lines.
At The Lime Tree Clinic in Perth, our doctor and cosmetic injector only use approved anti-wrinkle injections, also referred to as wrinkle relaxers, to treat these wrinkle lines with exceptional skills to perform the procedure at high-quality standards. What are anti-wrinkle injections made of?
How do anti-wrinkle injections work?
Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?
Wrinkle relaxers are safe as long as the substance is injected properly at the right dosage, in a sterile environment as well as administered by a qualified health practitioner.
Nevertheless, there are small risks involved with this procedure which are usually temporary and restricted to the treated areas. They include bruising, drooping of the eyelids, headache, redness of the injection site and muscle soreness.
What age should I consider wrinkle relaxers and anti-wrinkle injections?
The age at which to start anti-wrinkle injection treatments can vary greatly from person to person and you should take into account your skin and personal skin concerns when deciding.
As we get older, the repeated use of our facial muscles and loss of collagen and elastin in the skin means we form firm lines and creases when making facial expressions. Through the use of wrinkle relaxers, we can reduce expression lines and delay how long it takes for static or firm lines to form on our face.
Anti-wrinkle injection treatment can also be started once static lines have already formed and you’re looking for facial rejuvenation and a fresher look.
What are the target areas of wrinkle relaxer injections?
Here at our Perth clinic, the most commonly treated areas we treat with wrinkle relaxers are the lines across the forehead, crow’s feet (lines next to your eyes), and the glabella (frown lines between the eyes).
Other areas that we can treat with wrinkle relaxer injections include:
- Eyebrow area
- Downturned mouth
- Bunny lines
- Vertical lip lines
- Mental crease
- Jawline/ Masseter

What other conditions do wrinkle relaxers treat?
Since the 1970s, the use of wrinkle relaxers, or anti-wrinkle injections, in the treatment of medical conditions outside of cosmetic treatments has been well documented and is supported by strong medical evidence of its effectiveness. Some conditions that can be treated include:
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
- Cervical Dystonia
- Blepharospasm – uncontrollable blinking
- Strabismus – malaligned eyes
- Chronic Migraines
- Overactive Bladder
- Cerebral Palsy
Anti-wrinkle injections after-care
Immediately after the anti-wrinkle injection, there may be redness, swelling, tenderness and itching. Avoid scratching, massaging or picking around the injection site. This is normal and generally disappears within a few hours. If the symptoms persist for more than 3 days, please contact us.
After receiving your wrinkle relaxer treatment at our Perth clinic, you should avoid the following activities:
- Do not drink alcohol or complete strenuous exercise as it may result in additional bruising
- Avoid exposure to intense heat that can affect the treated areas. This include sauna, sunbathing, tanning or sports under direct sunlight.
- Sunscreen and makeup can be applied, and the area can be gently washed with a gentle cleanser after 4 hours.
When I can see the treatment results and how long will it last for?
When the muscle regains its function over time, the wrinkles and lines will reappear again, though usually softer than before the injections, and another treatment is required to maintain your desired results.
What is the cost of anti-wrinkle injections?
