As a par of healing process, it is normal for the wound:

  • To ooze slightly
  • Be red
  • Be itchy
  • To form a scab

If a scab forms:

  • Apply a small amount of the silicon scar gel available from our clinic if it is dry
  • It will fall off naturally in 1-2 weeks depending on the size of the wound

Until the scab falls off (if any) and the wound is dry to touch:

  • No sauna, intensive exercises and swimming
  • Avoid long, hot showers
  • Do not touch the wound except when cleaning and dressing it

For most wounds:

  • Change your wound regularly, at least daily for the first 3 days. If it is small, it may not need a dressing, please follow your nurse’s advice.
  • If significant discharge comes out from the site, remove the dressing, wipe it with a clean gauze/cotton swab, and then attach a new dressing.
  • Before showering, remove the dressing, and let the water run over the wound. You can very gently clean the wound. Once the wound is dry, place a new dressing.
  • If the dressing gets wet, whether by accident, perspiration, or wound discharge, please remove the dressing, clean if necessary, let it dry, and replace with a new dressing.

When the scab has fallen off naturally and the wound is dry (1-2 weeks after treatment):

  • You may stop using the dressing. A dressing is advisable if sun exposure is expected.
  • You must wear a strong sunscreen daily that blocks UVA and UVB, please purchase one from our clinic if you do not have one
  • Avoid the sun
  • You must use the silicon scar gel available from our clinic 3x a day. Only a thin smear is required and this should be used for at least 3 months, but preferably for as long as possible

If the roots of the moles are deep, of if the lesion reappears, you may need to repeat the treatment. Redness in the wound will gradually fade over months and may take up to 12 months. This is part of the healing process. The scar, if any, will improve gradually over the 12 months.

Please advise us if:

  • The wound is not healing as expected
  • There is excessive discharge/or unusual coloured discharge (deep yellow, green)
  • The wound opens up
  • If you have any concerns

If you have any questions, please call us on (08) 6266 4936 or email hello@thelimetreeclinic.com.au

What to expect after thread lifting treatment:

After threading, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising, pulling pain and rippling of skin. The severity of these experiences vary depending on your general skin condition, the laxity of your skin, the number of threads placed, the amount of skin lifting desired and your individual response to the threads and the procedure. For heavier, thicker, loose, sun damaged or more mature skin, the recovery period is longer and there is more rippling initially. These patients may want an additional treatment for additional results.

Tight feeling, stinging or pulling discomfort will subside over a 2-3week period. Some mild rippling of the skin is common and expected. In addition, the tighter the pull, the greater the lifting effect and the better the final result, but there is also more of the initial skin changes and it takes longer to fully settle. To provide the best results, Dr Robert Lau prefers to “hyper lift” the threads (lift beyond the expected results). Immediate hyper lifted results should be evident, and it is expected that after two weeks, this will settle to a more natural lift. This is normal. Slight dimpling is also common, this will either settle naturally, or Dr Rob may manipulate it gently at your 1 week review to easily correct this.

Swelling is often uneven after the procedure, due to how medicines work and individual differences. This will settle by itself in 2 weeks.

Occasionally, slight thread movement may occur, which can occur at any time up to 2 months. This can result in a clicking or tugging sensation, and sudden mild discomfort. This is simply the threads settling into the most appropriate position, and will settle in a matter of days. The strong and premium threads we use is very unlikely to prematurely break.

During the recovery period:

  • Use your healing nutrient face mask every night from the next day onwards. This will improve wound healing, speed up your recovery, reduce discomfort and reduce swelling.
  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery for 24 hours.
  • Do not engage in vigorous physical activities for 2 weeks, especially weight training. However light walking is encouraged to promote healing.
  • Do not drink alcohol for one week.
  • Keep your head elevated by 30 degrees and sleep on your back for the first three nights.
  • Washing your face is fine but only gently initially, and always with the direction of the lift and not against it (wash up and back, not down and forward).
  • Do not massage, have facial treatments, or use active skin products for 2 weeks unless as directed.
  • Apply SPF 50+ and avoid excessive sun exposure in order to optimise the wound healing.

For 2 weeks:

  • Do not open your mouth too wide as it places excessive stress on your skin. (e.g. excessive yawning, smiling, sneezing and other large facial movements)
  • Do not have dental treatment
  • Avoid hard foods that require significant chewing (vegetable sticks, jerkies, steaks etc.)
  • Do not touch or soak your wound site. No bathing, swimming and sauna.

If you have any questions, please call us on (08) 6266 4936 or email hello@thelimetreeclinic.com.au

Pre-treatment:

  • Avoid blood thinning medication and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E oil for 7 days (unless medically necessary) as this can increase the risk of bruising.

Post treatment:

  • Bruising, swelling, tightness and discomfort to be expected post-treatment, will generally subside within 2 weeks.
  • Avoid exercise for 1 week post-treatment, especially strenuous or weight training, however, a light walk is fine.
  • Sleep on your back for the first 3 nights to avoid discomfort on the nose.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medication and supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E oil for 3 days (unless medically necessary).
  • Keep the treatment area clean and dry, avoiding touching.
  • Avoid heat-inducing activities such as hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for 4 hours.
  • Avoid alcohol for 48 hours
  • Avoid active skin care products (AHAs, retinol, vitamin C) for 3 days.
  • Avoid facial treatments or dental appointments for 2 weeks.
  • The threads are anchored into the surrounding tissue. With sudden movement of the nose, you may hear a “click” or “snap”, this is normal while threads are settling in.
