Dermamelan Treatment

Support Brighter, Clearer-Looking Skin

Skin pigmentation, such as sun spots and freckles, is common in Australia due to higher levels of UV exposure. Another form of pigmentation can be hormone-related, which may be more complex when it affects deeper layers of the skin.

At The Lime Tree Clinic, we offer a range of options that may help improve the appearance of pigmentation. One such option is the Dermamelan treatment by Mesoestetic.

Dermamelan is a clinical topical treatment designed to target the appearance of pigmentation on the skin’s surface, and may also help address underlying contributing factors. It is used with the goal of achieving a brighter, smoother, and more even-looking skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dermamelan is made up of a specific formulation of active acid ingredients and vitamin nutrients, and does not contain skin-bleaching agents.

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of an area of skin due to an increase in production of melanin. Melanin is the pigment responsible for creating the brown pigment in skin. Hyperpigmentation can be caused by sun damage, inflammation, or other skin injuries such as acne scars. Melasma is a form of hormonal hyperpigmentation that commonly occurs in women.

Dermamelan works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase responsible for production of melanin in the skin through corrective and preventative action.

Corrective action – This corrective process reduces the amount of melanin synthesis, stimulates cell renewal and intensively combats the accumulation of melanin in the superficial skin layer to fade away existing unwanted pigmentation, resulting in a brighter and more even skin tone.

Preventative action – By inhibiting tyrosinase activation and reducing the function of tyrosinase, the melanin is prevented from reaching the skin surface, decreasing the formation of new unwanted pigmentation.

All treatments carry risk, our cosmetic practitioner will assess you to see suitability. To reduce any risks as much as possible, we perform the procedure carefully and gently. We are experienced in these procedures, and this further reduce the risks.

Dermamelan is a non-invasive topical treatment that does not require anaesthesia and is generally well tolerated. It contains a specific combination of ingredients and does not rely on traditional skin-bleaching agents, which may make it suitable for a range of skin types. However, this treatment may not be appropriate for individuals who are pregnant, have an active skin infection, or have known allergies to any of the ingredients.

As with any cosmetic treatment, there is a potential for side effects, although these are uncommon. Our qualified cosmetic practitioner will assess your medical history, explain the procedure in detail, and discuss any potential risks or complications to determine whether this treatment is suitable for you.

Dermamelan is popular for full facial treatment. However, it is also suitable for treating body areas that easily suffer from sun damage such as the arms, chest and shoulders where dark spots and freckles appear.

Dermamelan treatment protocol includes two main steps; clinical treatment and the home care regimen. Our cosmetic practitioner will assess your skin to determine your suitability for Dermamelan treatment before creating a customised treatment plan for your specific skin needs.

Clinical treatment generally takes 45 to 60 minutes. The procedure starts with cleaning and preparation of your skin to eliminate excess oils followed by the application of a thick layer of Dermamelan 1 facial mask. The Dermamelan 1 facial mask is applied evenly and all over your face, not just to the pigmented areas, and it stays on your face for 4-6 hours depending on your skin type. For this reason, it is best applied in the morning. You will be given instructions on when and how to remove the mask at home, as well as given a home care kit for continued depigmentation results (Dermamelan 2 cream, hydra-vital factor k, SPF 50 sun protection).

Immediately after you wash off the Dermamelan 1 mask at home, you may experience side effects such as redness and flaking but these will gradually resolve on its own. Makeup can be worn after a day of treatment, if required, without any problems.

Peeling effect usually starts to kick in about two to three days following the procedure and often accompanied with a tight feeling in the skin and itchiness. Application of the home care regimen will help to soothe the skin and is a strict protocol that needs to be followed to ensure the desired results.

Depending on your initial skin quality, you may see your unwanted pigmentation start to fade away and a brighter skin complexion as soon as one week after the treatment. With continuing use of the home care regiment, the pigmentations will continue to fade and will help to prevent the reoccurring of unwanted pigmentation, resulting in maintained results. It is imperative to use sunscreen when outdoors.

In some cases, you may need more than one treatment to achieve desired results. Our cosmetic practitioner will work closely with you to recommend the required number of treatments to meet your expectations.
