Sweat Reduction Injections

Sweat Reduction Injections

Sweating, as stinky and uncomfortable as it can be, is a naturally occurring process that helps to maintain normal body temperature. However, for some people, the sweat glands become overactive to a point that it causes excessive sweating and can potentially have a serious impact on your social life and relationship, perhaps even to your emotional health.

The good news is, excessive sweating or medically known as hyperhidrosis is treatable. At The Lime Tree Clinic, we offer a non-surgical procedure using sweat reduction injections to treat localised hyperhidrosis, allowing you to not sweat the small stuff to help you regain your confidence and peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sweat reduction injections are made of a natural, sterile and purified protein which is the same active ingredients used for anti-wrinkle injections. Due to the legal requirement of medical practice in Australia, the actual name of the injections cannot be disclosed here.

Sweat reduction injections work by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the sympathetic nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the signals are stopped, so does the sweat. Our cosmetic practitioner will access your medical history to rule out any underlying causes for your hyperhidrosis and determine your suitability for this injection.

Yes, it is very safe if used appropriately by a qualified cosmetic practitioner. Nevertheless there are possible mild side effects involved with this procedure which are temporary. They include headache, bruising, redness of the injection site and muscle soreness.

The most commonly treated areas are the underarms. It can also be administered to other skin services such as the forehead, palms, and feet.

The procedure usually takes about 20 minutes, and has no downtime. The procedure starts with a test to map the target areas followed by cleansing with anti-septic solution. A fine needle or treatment machine is used to inject the therapeutic product into the target areas. Depending on the location of treatment, you may need 10 or more injections for each area. You may experience a slight discomfort, like the sting of an ant for a few seconds. Numbing cream is applied before treatment to minimise any discomfort.

Although there is no downtime after the treatment and you can resume daily tasks immediately, there may be mild bruising and soreness which will resolve within a few days. It is advisable to wear loose fitting clothing or footwear to your procedure. This is to prevent any irritation to the treatment areas.

Results are seen quickly and take a week to reach full potential. This injection is not a permanent solution and may last for 10 to 12 months. For most individuals, we recommend top-up treatments every 6 to 8 months to continue the desired results.
